Kafemet Injectable Solution

COMPOSITION

Kafemet Injectable Solution is a clear, colourless solution. Each ml contains 250 mg of caffeine, and sodium benzoate as preservative.

INDICATIONS FOR USE

It is used as a stimulant in all cases which the central nervous system and the respiratory center should be stimulated. In cases of collapse, atony, paralysis, in poisonings with narcotics such as morphine, chloroform and alcohol, in acute and chronic heart deficiencies and as a heart stimulant in pulmonary deficiencies. For this purpose, it is sometimes combined with cardiotonic glycosides. It increases the urine amount, therefore it is used especially in ascites cases as solo or combined with other diuretics and heart glycosides.

ADMINISTRATION ROUTES AND AMOUNTS

Unless recommended otherwise by the veterinarian, the pharmacological dose of caffeine is 5 – 15 mg/kg bw. It is administered subcutaneously (SC) as a single dose. Practical doses are as follows:

Animals Practical doses
Horse – Cattle 2 – 6 ml / 100 kg bw
Sheep – Goat 1 – 3 ml / 50 kg bw
Dog – Cat 0.1 – 0.3 ml / 5 kg bw


WITHDRAWAL PERIOD(S)

Withdrawal periods in cattle, sheep and goat are 0 (zero) days for meat and milk.
